EAST COMMUNITIES
Whether you're looking for a bustling city atmosphere or a
quiet country refuge, the communities that constitute "the Eastside" (east of Lake Washington)
offer diverse choices. Eastside residents enjoy easy access to both work and play.
Bellevue (Bellevue Chamber of
Commerce) Washington's fifth largest city
encompasses 31 square miles at the crossroads of the Eastside. Bellevue has a strong, downtown
business district, with a broadening mix of high-tech firms, professional services, retail and
manufacturing.
Duvall Incorporated in 1913, Duvall is a small but diverse town, rich in history and tradition.
Residents provide a cross section of occupations and cultures. While basically agricultural,
Duvall is fast becoming a favorite residential community.
Issaquah (Issaquah Chamber of
Commerce) Small-town ambiance seems to
make a permanent home in Issaquah, a city with turn-of-the-century origins. At the south end of
Lake Sammamish, 16 miles east of Seattle, Issaquah is rich in Northwest heritage and natural
beauty. Issaquah is known as a thriving business center. Yet, the city retains its small-town
character with specialty boutiques, unique galleries and antique shops.
Kirkland (Kirkland Chamber of
Commerce) Kirkland is one of the few
cities in the Northwest that has preserved 25 percent of its waterfront - including seven parks -
for public use. Located on the shore of Lake Washington just north of Bellevue, the city is
bordered by public beaches with views of Seattle and the Olympic Mountains.
Mercer
Island (Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce) Unique among Seattle's neighboring cities, Mercer Island is a
residential community located in the middle of Lake Washington. The island is a beautiful area
that retains a rural feeling, yet is just a bridge away from two major metropolitan
hubs.
Redmond (Redmond Chamber of
Commerce) Redmond has evolved into a
thriving center of business and community life, while retaining the flavor of its rural past. One
of the fastest-growing cities in the state, Redmond is home to several nationally and
internationally recognized companies, including Microsoft, Nintendo, Eddie Bauer and
Physio-Control, a biotechnology firm.
Sammamish Nestled between Issaquah and Redmond on Òthe Plateau,Ó Sammamish has the highest percentage
of residents under the age of 18. Many upscale neighborhoods with tight covenants and private
security are located here.
Snoqualmie
Valley The Snoqualmie Valley is a
fast-growing region. Once a rural farming area, the valley is also home to many people who choose
to commute to jobs in Bellevue and Seattle. The growing cities of North Bend and Snoqualmie, and
the regions of Fall City and Carnation are all located in the valley.
Woodinville (Woodinville Chamber of
Commerce) Woodinville belongs to one of
the fastest-growing business and industrial areas in the region. Part of the Eastside technology
corridor, Woodinville offers small-town character and lifestyle to its residents
