SOUTH COMMUNITIES
Mount Rainier looms above the cities south of Seattle - communities close to employment centers and within easy reach of outdoor recreation.

Auburn (Auburn Chamber of Commerce)
Auburn is situated in the Green River Valley, some 23 miles south of Seattle. For many years an agricultural community, Auburn is now a transportation center (it sits midway between Seattle and Tacoma), and a manufacturing and distribution point in South King County.

Polygon Homes *Burien (Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce)
Located only five minutes from SeaTac Airport and 1/2-hour from either Seattle or Tacoma, Burien offers small-town character and charm close to big-city atmosphere. The city also has more than 70 restaurants and 305 acres of parkland.

Des Moines (Des Moines Chamber of Commerce)
Des Moines has occupied the shores of Puget Sound for more than 100 years. A large marina with a long fishing pier, historical buildings, residential retirement communities and many shopping, entertainment and recreational choices form the character of this peaceful community.

Enumclaw (Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce)
Enumclaw, located in southeast King County, is the center of business and shopping for the surrounding agricultural community and also serves as a gateway to Mount Rainier National Park, 50 miles to the southeast. Enumclaw has retained a quiet, small-town character.

Federal Way (Federal Way Chamber of Commerce)
The city of Federal Way is located in the southwestern corner of King County. The city is on a plateau between Puget Sound and the Green River Valley, approximately 25 miles south of Seattle and eight miles north of Tacoma.

Kent (Kent Chamber of Commerce)
In 1884, settlers named the Green River Valley "Kent," after a renowned hop-growing area in England. To date, some 4,200 companies are doing business in Kent, taking advantage of the city's location midway between Seattle and Tacoma. The largest employer is Boeing's Kent Space Center.

Maple Valley
Maple Valley is a fast-growing area located halfway between Tacoma and Seattle. Even though new homes are springing up, the area maintains a rural atmosphere with farms and plenty of space.

Puyallup (Puyallup Chamber of Commerce)
This second-largest city in Pierce County features many outdoor parks, public art and antique district. It is also home to the Western Washington Fair.

SeaTac (Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce)
This city, surrounding the airport, is a combination of business, hospitality and residential areas. SeaTac hosts the International Festival each June.

Renton (Renton Chamber of Commerce)
A suburban city, Renton is a key Puget Sound employment center for industries such as The Boeing Co. and Paccar. The area also has large commercial centers, manufacturing facilities, high-tech industries and service companies.

Tacoma (Tacoma Chamber of Commerce)
Tacoma is a large city sitting on the edge of commencement Bay. Its recently revitalized and renovated downtown core attracts many residents and visitors for shopping, dining and a vibrant performing arts scene.

Tukwila (Tukwila Chamber of Commerce)
Tukwila is home to the Museum of Flight, South Center Mall and many biking and walking trails. Residents enjoy the Summer Music in the Park concert series.
